Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home

So it is time to by a new computer for your business. You do some research, look at your budget and decide to buy one or more for your company. Then you unpack it, set it up and attempt to connect it to your network. You search and search for the setting to allow you to connect it to you network or Domain but you can not find it. You can setup a workgroup with your domain name and can see every machine. But you cannot connect to them or login to the network. After hours of frustration you call us to figure out what is wrong.

There is nothing wrong

The first problem is you did not consult with us before you made that equipment purchase.

The second problem is you got caught in Microsoft's new software "GOT YA!!!". Microsoft has released their new operating system called Windows XP and there are two versions Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional. Windows XP Home was designed for Homeowner usage only and comes pre-loaded on all low cost retail computers and is designed to work with ONLY peer to peer networks, it cannot be connected to a domain. ( A Domain is the type of network where you have a dedicated server). Then there is Windows XP Professional just as the name says Professional, this product is designed for integration into your business, it came from the path of Windows NT and Windows 2000. It is a full strength product that is designed to work connected to a domain and perform flawlessly in that environment.

The third problem is what to do with that computer that I just purchased, "Please make it work". Our first answer is "Can you use it at home" if not then we will have to re-install Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional from scratch. This means we have to sell you a license for Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional and charge you the 2-3 hours to install it. We are sorry but this is the only option.

We have uncovered problems that occur with trying to upgrade some low cost machines: It was only designed for Windows XP Home and does not have Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional driver available, The machine cannot handle Windows XP Professional, The machine does not have any PCI slots to install a network card as it is not designed for expansion, It only comes with USB keyboard and Mouse.

So Please Consult us first before you purchase equipment for your business we will save you a lot of money. We have our own Business Class Machines available, they do cost a little more but they are robust and reliable and best of all designed for business use or if you still prefer to purchase your own we would be happy to help you make a selection and advise you on the minimum requirement that you should purchase.
